Barbie Shampoo Dispenser Doll. Series III. Box 3

11½” high 3” wide

1989

United States

Mixed Materials, Plastic, vinyl, and other materials

This doll was created as a shampoo dispenser. This doll follows the trend of the 1980’s where there was a move to make dolls more representative of the people of whom the dolls were meant to market. This doll has more natural features of an African- American young lady, with medium sized lips and a medium sized nose. She has a dark brown complexion and a medium build. She was to be a friend to the classic doll called “Barbie” who in turn became an eponym or generic trademark for any fashion doll.
