This doll belongs to the pickaninny tradition of dolls that were created under Blackabilia curios which were replicas of dolls and figurines that portrayed African- Americans and people from the African Diaspora, as stereotypical caricatures of pickaninnies, mammies, Aunt Jemimmas, and black -face minstrels.
