This doll is in the tradition of African Artist who makes dolls with materials that are available. These dolls are not made for children to play with, but are considered spirit holders and used for traditional African religion ceremonies. This concept was brought from Africa to the islands and is a part of the voodoo culture. This doll was made in the 1970's when African Pride was very strong all over the world.
